INMA kick-off on line meeting (3rd of June, 2026)

"INnovative techniques for the study of Magnetic Activity in intermediate mass stars"

Magnetic fields represent one of the major challenges in astrophysics. Their origin, prevalence and influence in different phenomena, such as in the gravity and pressure oscillations inside the stars, is not completely understood in spite of the massive ultra-precise data that have gathered with space missions. In particular, the hotter intermediate mass stars are not expected to show any surface effects of magnetic fields related to dynamo theory. Nevertheless, stellar spots and flares have been detected in some hot stars, e.g., early A-type. In the context of INMA ILINK-CSIC project we aim to better understand the presence of magnetic fields in intermediate mass stars, particularly, the least understood hotter stars where the opacity-driven oscillations are excited. We pursue a holistic view of the problem by combining theoretical models, dynamo effect simulations and the analysis of observations by identifying surface phenomena such as the rotational modulation and other non-surface effects on the pulsation frequencies such as g-modes in the core.

The diverse expertise of the groups involved in INMA project provide a great opportunity to confront these challenges from a new perspective. In this kickoff meeting we will put our current research work in common and discuss the best strategy to pursue the objectives of the project in order to plan the next steps and detail the activities along the 2 years of the project.
